For the first time since its creation in 2004, the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) will make a stop in Berlin to play the biggest professional poker tournament ever held in Germany. The event is scheduled to take place from March 2 to March 7, 2010, at the Marlene-Dietrich-Platz at Potsdamer Platz, in where a two story glass palace will be built especially to hold the EPT Berlin Main Event as well as a variety of side events.

According to EPT representatives, up to 1,000 players are expected to play in the Main Event, including numerous international and national top players. Among the players confirmed for this event are tennis legend and Team PokerStars SportStar Boris Becker, all of Team PokerStars Germany - including the Season 5 Germany winner Sandra Naujoks, Boris Becker’s poker coach, Jan Heitmann from Munich who is, as well as all the guests from “TV Total PokerStars.de Nacht”. In addition, Poker Stars, the sponsor of the EPT and the world’s biggest online poker room, is guaranteeing a 1 million euros first prize for the winner of EPT Berlin.

World leading online poker site PokerStars.com,  is aiming once again to break a world record for the ‘Largest Online Poker Tournament’ set by the site on July, 2009, when a total of 65,000 players took part in an $100,000 guaranteed tournament. The site also set the first world record in December, 2008, when 35,000 players  turned out for the $11 buy-in $500,000 Guaranteed event.

Sanctioned by the Guinness Book of World Records, PokerStars’ next attempt will take place on December 27th at 14:45 ET. The No-Limit Hold’Em tournament will have a $1 buy-in and a $300,000 prize pool, including a $50.000 first prize. The top 30,000 players will receive prize money.

“Players really enjoy these events, and so do we. There is a real thrill when the tournament begins and everyone realizes just how many people are taking part from all over the world.” said Bryan Slick, PokerStars’ Tournaments Team Leader.

Registration is open now under ‘Tourney’ > ‘Special’ of the Poker Stars client. There is no late registration for this event so players must buy in before 14:45 ET on December 27th.

The existing Guinness World Record was set in July, when PokerStars gathered 65.000 players from 155 countries. The winner was ‘004 license’ from South Carolina, USA; over 16,000 players made the money.
